Smart Adeyemi replaces Dino Melaye in the 9th Senate as INEC declares him winner of Kogi West senatorial election

L-R Dino Melaye and Smart Adeyemi
Dino Melaye of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has lost his bid to retain his seat at the Senate as Smart Adeyemi of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been pronounced winner of the Kogi West senatorial district rerun election Saturday.
Mr Adeyemi polled 88,373 votes while Mr Melaye recorded 62,133 votes, according to the result announced by the returning officer, Olajide Lawal.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had a week ago declared the election inconclusive because the margin between Mr Adeyemi and Mr Melaye is lower than the number of “registered voters in 53 polling units of the 20 registration areas in the zone where elections were cancelled.”
After the initial election, both candidates had respectively polled 80,118 and 59,548 votes.
The margin of 20,570 votes between the two candidates was far less than the 43,127 registered voters in the 53 polling units where elections were cancelled. Hence, the rerun.
Mr Melaye rejected the results at the time.
Mr Adeyemi is returning to the Senate about five years after he lost the seat to Mr Melaye at the 2015 election.
NAN reported earlier today that a relatively large number of voters turned out on for Saturday’s supplementary poll.
Voters and INEC Staff started arriving polling units early in some of the centres.
Simultaneous accreditation and voting started at 8:15 a.m at Inuwa Lenge Open Space PU 04 in Lokoja.
A team of Policemen was also on ground to keep the peace.
A voter, Malam Bala, 60, expressed satisfaction with the exercise and hoped it would not be “scattered again.
“I am happy with the way it is going. No crisis. No fighting. They should just let us vote and they count it. We don’t need to fight. I am happy with the way we are calm,” he said.

We'll not handover the church to rascals - Pastor Kumuyi

Vanguard News Nigeria

….charges members on obedience to leadership

THE General Superintendent of Deeper Life Bible Church, Pastor William Kumuyi, Saturday, maintained that the church will not be handed over to ‘rascals’ who are not portraying the image of Christ in their character.
Kumuyi

Kumuyi made the declaration via a satellite broadcast from headquarters of the church in Lagos, while teaching on the topic, ‘Fear Not: The Promise Is Still Good’ during the Faith Clinic session at the ongoing Deeper Life National December Retreat, holding at the Deeper Life Conference Centre (DLCC), which started on Friday, December 21 and ends December 25.

He said the church will not condone any form of rascality and rebellion because the word of God never encourages that and is a strange behaviour capable of taking one to hell fire.

He said: “We are not going to hand the church over to rascals, over to rebellious people that want to scatter everything that is good that the Lord is doing. If you …
