Adolescents Reproductive Health situation in Nigeria: Life experience

“I was born into the family of Rev.and Mrs Od…. in the year 1987 as the first daughter among 5 children. My dad travelled to USA when I was 3 years old, to be left with my mum to take care of us, the children. My mum was so busy to extent that she took me to the boarding school when I was 6 years as a student in Nursery 3. Due to my mum’s tight schedule as a Rev. pastoring a church and other counseling program she had a less time to attend to us the children but always provide a house maid to take care of the home to the extent that we had different apartment even when she was available, at home.
I grew up in the hostel and also around my brothers’ friends who introduced themselves as if they were caring and loving to me. Due to lack of monitoring, care and love and proper information I always see their companionship as at the best. I attended over 10 schools before I left my secondary school which affected me academically
When I was growing as an adolescent I had no proper information about sex or relationship with me because all my mum will say was “ whoever is pregnant among you will go to village” So I thought all she wanted was not for me to be pregnant but  I can do all other things involve in sex. Been the first daughter among 9 children (7boys and 2 girls) from my dad because my mum was the second wife and I had a step mum, who had left my dad before I was born. I had no elder sister to put me through, so was living the way I know it best. Though sometimes when mum is available she gives us some discipline like respecting people, act of appreciation and morals.
I had a very   low self-esteem due to ignorance and lack of information , both academically and other aspect of life so I always want to be seen with people who has high self esteem and know what life is worth for them, while my younger sister follow men , because  she is very beautiful but still kept herself from sex, until my mum ignorantly and selfishly allowed a man who my sister was dating to come under our roof I the name of helping him which eventually disvirgined her and infected her with HIV . I cannot say precisely when I lost my virginity because I was exposed to sexual act early in life.
Also I had some low-self-esteem female friends who introduce me to Lesbianlism and masturbation from the acts of playing together as mere friends which was due to lack of monitoring. I have had several unprotected sex ignorantly and I believe everybody was better than me, due to low self-esteem. My 3 elder brothers smoked india- hemp and cigarette , and usually got drunk heavily.
My 3 brothers and the only sister dropped out from the University due  to Mum’s failure to provide enough money and attention that they needed, in spite of all the money my dad was pumping home and she was using it to acquire things and doing Crusade all over at the expense of the education of the children. This eventually leads to divorce between both of them when dad came back to the country.
My sister carrying HIV infection about, unknowingly  came across a man who impregnated her within a month of their relationship and intended to marry her but as soon as the parent realize she was HIV Positive, they decided to take the baby away from her which eventually  led to her running away with the baby. Now she is living alone with baby with the feeling of rejection by everybody around her.
I eventually lost my mum, on 16th March, 20110 during her sickness and I thought all hope was lost because during that time she had realized her mistakes and she was ready to amend her ways, also dad had divorced mum, with their agreement of mum to be responsible for our education which she agreed, to complicate the issue our is not financially buoyant again to assist. After all, I believe it was not her fault, because she lacked proper information on Adolescent issues and care. I still love her to be alive.
Please, I wish to share my story to many adolescents and parents not to make similar mistakes...”

We'll not handover the church to rascals - Pastor Kumuyi

Vanguard News Nigeria

….charges members on obedience to leadership

THE General Superintendent of Deeper Life Bible Church, Pastor William Kumuyi, Saturday, maintained that the church will not be handed over to ‘rascals’ who are not portraying the image of Christ in their character.

Kumuyi made the declaration via a satellite broadcast from headquarters of the church in Lagos, while teaching on the topic, ‘Fear Not: The Promise Is Still Good’ during the Faith Clinic session at the ongoing Deeper Life National December Retreat, holding at the Deeper Life Conference Centre (DLCC), which started on Friday, December 21 and ends December 25.

He said the church will not condone any form of rascality and rebellion because the word of God never encourages that and is a strange behaviour capable of taking one to hell fire.

He said: “We are not going to hand the church over to rascals, over to rebellious people that want to scatter everything that is good that the Lord is doing. If you …
